Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and attracts visitors from all over the world, all year round. Stockholm satisfies all tastes; art, music, fashion, design, food, shopping, night life or big-city trends.
It is the city’s unique and extremely picturesque position that gives Stockholm its character and atmosphere. The city is built upon 14 islands and reaches out into Lake Mälaren and further out into Saltsjön (Salt Sea) where the archipelago takes over with its more than 24,000 islands, islets and skerries.
A visit to the Old Town, with its castle and narrow, charming alleys, is a must. From here you can take a picturesque promenade along Fjällgatan on Södermalm, with an enchanting view over the city, and then perhaps why not end up with a cup of coffee at the historical Fåfängan, also with a beautiful view of Stockholm. Djurgården offers a wide range of experiences; amongst others it contains Skansen (an-open air museum and zoo) and the Vasa Museum. For the children there is Junibacken with Astrid Lindgren’s fantastic fairytale world. For those who are interested in art a visit to Thielska Gallery and Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde, two museums both renowned for their collections of Nordic paintings and sculptures from the turn of the century.
A list of other attractions and things worth seeing in Stockholm could be made much longer.
Shoppers are offered an extensive choice of goods. Stockholm is now generally recognized internationally as one of the most exciting cities in the world. The centres for exclusive fashion and design are the City and Östermalm, where NK, Åhléns, Sturegallerian, Gallerian are situated.
