Örebro

Örebro is situated in the middle of Sweden and is one of Sweden’s most central towns. It is a beautiful town offering everything from a well preserved environment from the Middle Ages to new, exciting architecture. There are shopping streets, restaurants, cafés, boutiques, museums and exhibitions. Why not take the opportunity to visit Cajsa Warg’s childhood home, Kronblom’s kitchen with the beloved settee, or take a look at Hjalmar Bergman’s book collection. On the banks of Svartån, in the town quarter Wadköping, you can wander around in the picturesque alleys and the cobble stoned market place, visit the craftsmen or take part in the arrangements which take place all year round.

Since the 1990’s, Svampen (the mushroom) is one of Örebro’s most famous symbols. There is a restaurant in the hat of the Mushroom and an experience-centre where you can experience water in all its forms. This famous water tower has become the model for many similar towers both in Sweden and in other countries throughout the world. For example, an exact copy is to be found in Saudi-Arabia.

One thing you must not miss when in Örebro is a visit to Vasaborg, Örebro’s castle. Take a guided tour, see the castle’s historical exhibition or experience the weird ghostly trip, if you dare…

Within walking distance from the centre, the beautiful countryside along the shores of Lake Hjälmaren is waiting and 20 km to the West the majestic Kilsberg (the blue mountain) can be seen.

Örerbo is expanding every year and with its 130,000 inhabitants it is now the seventh largest town in Sweden.
