Härjedalen offers you unexpected experiences. You probably know that there are fantastic fishing waters and magnificent countryside here. But, did you know that there are exciting exhibitions about witches and one of Sweden’s most famous author Henning Mankell?
The Mankell Cultural Centre is located in the People’s Palace and is an exhibition based upon the authorship of Henning Mankell. `Henning Mankell’s Sveg´ is a guided tour based upon the four books about Joel and Henning Mankell during the 1950’s when they were growing up in Sveg.
The Swedish witch trial started in Lillhärdal when Big-Märit was convicted of being a witch in the 17th century.
Sveg offers world class skiing facilities for both cross-country and down-hill skiers. Vemdalen, approximately 60 km north of Sveg, has one of Sweden’s most family friendly skiing and consist of three alpine areas: Vemdalsskalet, Björnrike and Klövsjö/Storhogna. Not too far from Sveg are skiing areas of Ramundberget, Funäsdalen and Loftsdalen found, offering both family friendly and advanced skiing conditions.
Nearby downtown Sveg, Björnberget's slopes are located holding two lifts and four ski-runs. There is also a warm shelter where you can eat and enjoy a warm drink. Björnberget also offers cross-country skiing. The ski stadium nearby holds several miles of prepared ski-runs, of which 5 km are illuminated. There is also a shooting range where you can practice biathlon. One of Sweden’s most successful biathlon skiers, A-C Olofsson, has spent many hours practicing here.
You can find accommodation at Sveg’s Camping with both cabins and caravan parking or at Hotel Mysoxen and Lilla Hotel.
