Mora is located on Lake Siljan in northern Dalarna and is one of Sweden’s best known place-names. Already in primary school, children learn about the former Swedish King Gustav Vasa’s adventures, especially how people helped him to flee. This is the origin of the famous ski race `Vasaloppet´ more than 400 years later. This is the biggest ski race in the world and the finishing line is right in central Mora.
Culture is often associated with Mora. Here, traditions such as midsummer celebrations, national costumes and the church rowing boat race are preserved.
Zorn Museum and Zorngården are attractions to which a visit is almost taken for granted. At `Tomteland´ (Brownie Park) near Gesundaberget one can meet Mr Brownie himself and at Nusnäs you can see how the famous Dala horses are made. It is probable that you will see products from Mora almost daily, water taps in the bathroom, radio masts along the roadsides and the most common: the sheath knife which is found in almost every toolbox. Just think for a moment and you will certainly remember other products.
The
closest ski region to Mora is Sälen, a region that consist of 4 ski areas where
